Position Details:
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.
- Update patient information.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist.
- Proficient in using straight and butterfly needles, and handling color tubes.
- At least 2 years of experience with blood draws and venipunctures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
