Certified Sterile Processing Technician

Job Summary
The Certified Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and tracking of reusable surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. 
This role ensures adherence to departmental and hospital policies and procedures to maintain a sterile and efficient environment for patient safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Decontaminate, inspect, and assemble medical supplies, equipment, and instruments, maintaining a minimum productivity standard of 80% over designated time frames.
  • Operate automated washers, cart washers, ultrasonic washers, and sterilizers in line with manufacturer instructions and hospital protocols.
  • Transport soiled medical instruments and devices safely according to department guidelines.
  • Inspect all equipment for cleanliness, defects, and functionality prior to packaging, ensuring complete and accurate instrument trays.
  • Utilize the SPM Instrument Tracking System for accurate documentation and inventory tracking.
  • Apply appropriate disinfectant and sterilization methods to ensure all items meet high-level disinfection/sterilization standards.
  • Distribute sterilized items, maintaining their integrity and following hospital protocols for documentation.
  • Prepare case carts with the correct items, ensuring completeness and timeliness for patient procedures.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding workflow, equipment issues, safety concerns, and improvement opportunities.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in ongoing training to stay current with safety and compliance protocols.
  • Adhere to dress code and emergency plans as mandated by hospital policies.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification upon hire.
  • Experience with scope reprocessing for scope processing roles.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience in a central supply or operating room processing area.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with hospital personnel.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Certifications
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
