The Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized care to critically ill newborns, including premature infants and those with medical conditions requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. The NICU RN works closely with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care for infants in the NICU.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill or premature neonates, monitoring vital signs and adjusting care plans based on the infant's condition.
Assessment & Monitoring: Perform ongoing assessments of the neonate's health status, including respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological functions. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
Collaborative Care: Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for neonates.
Resuscitation & Emergency Care: Provide advanced neonatal resuscitation and emergency care when necessary, following established protocols.
Family Support: Provide emotional support, education, and guidance to families, helping them understand their infant’s condition and care needs.
Documentation: Accurately document patient care, assessments, and interventions in the patient’s medical record.
Compliance: Ensure adherence to hospital policies, infection control procedures, and patient safety standards.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: At least 1 year of recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Licensure & Certification:
Registered Nurse License in the state where care is provided.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field.
Experience: At least 7 years of recent experience in a Level III NICU within the last 10 years.
Certifications (if any):
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (required).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
