The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides high-quality care to critically ill pediatric patients. This role involves the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for children in critical condition, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive treatment. The RN in PICU ensures the delivery of safe, compassionate care while adhering to hospital protocols and maintaining patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Provide direct nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and managing life support equipment.
Assessment and Planning: Assess the health needs of patients and develop individualized care plans, adjusting as necessary to ensure the best outcomes.
Collaboration: Work closely with pediatricians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care for critically ill children.
Family Support: Provide emotional support and education to families, explaining care plans, procedures, and progress.
Documentation: Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, and treatments in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures to ensure patient and staff safety in a critical care environment.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, utilizing advanced pediatric life support techniques.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent full-time equivalent experience within the last 3 years, specifically in pediatric nursing or critical care settings.
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Licensure and Certifications:
Registered Nurse License in the state where care is provided.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field.
