Job Summary:

The Surgical Tech-First Assist works under the direct supervision of the surgeon to ensure optimal surgical outcomes. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the surgical area, scrubbing in, and assisting the physician during procedures. This role also supports the RN with technical patient care functions, provides training to other team members, and serves as a resource within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain the operating room for surgical procedures.
• Scrub in and assist the surgeon during operations, adhering to aseptic techniques.
• Support the RN with technical patient care tasks.
• Contribute to the training and development of new team members.
• Act as a departmental resource, sharing knowledge and expertise.
• Ensure compliance with safety and procedural protocols at all times.

Required Qualifications:

• Education:

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) and the State of FL Surgical Assistant Program,
  • Medical School Graduate, 
  • Allied health professional with a completed 2,250-hour surgical rotation.

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience within the last 4 years in a related role.

• Certifications:

  • Current Certified First Assistant (CFA) certification, with a minimum of 350 completed cases.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association.

• Skills:

  • Critical thinking and service excellence.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic PC skills.
