Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Job Summary
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients through the nursing process, tailored to the age and needs of the patients on their assigned unit. This care is delivered in accordance with the philosophy and standards set by the Nursing Service Department, regulatory agencies, and professional organizations. The Registered Nurse ensures the safety and quality of care delivered, both directly and indirectly, and is accountable to patients and their families or significant others. This role reports directly to the Director of Obstetrical Nursing or designee.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver comprehensive nursing care to Labor and Delivery patients.
  • Provide care in accordance with the nursing department’s philosophy and established standards, as well as regulatory and professional guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety of patients by delivering or supervising high-quality nursing care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to provide clear information and emotional support.
  • Ensure the quality of nursing care delivered, both directly to patients and indirectly to their families or significant others.
  • Maintain and document accurate patient records, including assessments, care plans, and patient progress.
  • Follow departmental protocols and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient care.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in California (CA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Strong basic nursing, communication, and assessment skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Fetal Monitoring Certification.
  2. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Certifications
  • BLS Healthcare Provider certification required.
  • Fetal monitoring certification preferred.
  • ACLS certification preferred.
