Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the CVICU is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill cardiac patients. This role involves advanced patient assessment, monitoring, and intervention to support patients through complex cardiovascular procedures and conditions. The RN will work in collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care to critically ill cardiac patients in the CVICU, utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Monitor and assess patients for any changes in cardiovascular conditions, and intervene appropriately.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and other interventions as prescribed, ensuring proper documentation of all actions.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Lead and participate in medical emergencies within the CVICU, ensuring patient stability.
  • Perform ongoing assessments of patient conditions and adjust care plans based on changes in patient status.
  • Educate patients and families on cardiovascular health, treatment plans, and recovery processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of care protocols for CVICU patients.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior nurses and nursing students.
  • Participate in department quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency in advanced nursing practices.
  • Engage in continuing education to stay current with advancements in cardiovascular care.

Required Qualifications:
  1. 1 year of recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

License, Certification, Registration:
  • Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field.
  • One (1) year of current experience in a progressive or intermediate care unit (ICU, step-down, etc.).

Certifications (if any):
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Additional specialized certifications (e.g., CCRN) are a plus.
