The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to assist in providing rehabilitative care to patients.
This role supports treatment plans aimed at improving mobility, relieving pain, restoring function, and preventing disability while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Physical Therapist in implementing prescribed treatment plans
Provide therapeutic exercises, gait training, functional activities, and modalities as directed
Observe and monitor patient responses during therapy sessions and report findings to the Physical Therapist
Educate patients on exercises, mobility techniques, and use of assistive devices
Prepare treatment areas and maintain therapy equipment in a safe and functional condition
Document patient treatments, progress, and observations accurately and timely
Assist with patient transfers and mobility using proper safety techniques
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams
Follow organizational policies, ethical standards, and applicable healthcare regulations
Required Qualifications
Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Current Physical Therapist Assistant license or eligibility for licensure in the applicable state
Knowledge of physical therapy techniques and rehabilitation principles
Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient care skills
Ability to follow clinical instructions and treatment protocols
Basic proficiency with electronic documentation systems
Preferred Qualifications
Previous clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, rehabilitation, or long-term care settings
Experience working with orthopedic, neurological, or post-surgical patients
Certifications
CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (if required by facility or state regulations)
