The Laboratory Assistant plays a critical role in specimen processing and laboratory support. This position requires hands-on experience in handling and preparing specimens for testing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities
Process specimens for laboratory testing, including centrifuging, aliquoting, and storage.
Handle and prepare Purple Top (EDTA) and Red Top (plain) tubes.
Operate centrifuges, manage Vacutainer tubes, and complete laboratory requisitions.
Ensure proper specimen labeling, documentation, and chain of custody.
Support laboratory workflows by maintaining accuracy and efficiency in specimen handling.
Follow strict safety and compliance protocols in all laboratory activities.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Laboratory Assistant (hospital setting preferred).
Strong knowledge of specimen processing techniques.
Experience with centrifuges, Vacutainer tubes, and laboratory requisitions.
HLA specimen handling knowledge highly preferred.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Requirements
Must have specimen processing knowledge (phlebotomists will not be accepted).
All travelers must have a current flu vaccination (facility requirement).
Preferred Skills
Prior hospital laboratory experience.
Familiarity with compliance standards and laboratory safety protocols.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
