The Registered Nurse – Step Down provides direct patient care to individuals with complex cardiac, respiratory, and medical-surgical conditions in a progressive care unit. This role involves monitoring telemetry, administering treatments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and responding to rapid changes in patient condition while ensuring compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to patients with cardiac, respiratory, and medical-surgical conditions
Monitor cardiac telemetry, vital signs, and patient responses to treatment
Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments as ordered
Assess patient conditions and promptly report changes to the healthcare team
Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and other professionals to develop care plans
Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
loat to medical-surgical units as needed and manage appropriate patient assignments
Maintain EMR documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies
Respond to emergencies and participate in interventions when required
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
Effective communication and collaboration abilities
Preferred Qualifications
1–2 years of experience in progressive care or step-down unit nursing
Prior experience with cardiac telemetry monitoring
Certifications
BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Required
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) – Requir
