The Registered Nurse – Bone Marrow provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing bone marrow transplants and related therapies. This role involves administering treatments, monitoring patient progress, managing side effects, and offering compassionate support to patients and families throughout the transplant process. The nurse collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Administer medications and treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care
Monitor patient progress by assessing vital signs, lab results, and overall condition
Manage side effects and complications related to bone marrow transplants
Provide patient and family education on transplant procedures, recovery expectations, and home care
Coordinate care with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals
Maintain accurate documentation in patient medical records
Ensure infection control and patient safety standards in transplant units
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent education
Minimum of 2–3 years oncology or transplant nursing experience
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication and patient care abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in bone marrow transplant units or hematology/oncology settings
Training in chemotherapy administration and transplant protocols
Certifications (if applicable)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred
Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) – Preferred
