The Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit provides direct patient care to individuals transitioning from intensive care to a lower acuity setting. This role involves monitoring complex conditions, administering treatments, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients requiring close observation.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to patients with cardiac, respiratory, and medical-surgical needs
Monitor telemetry and vital signs to detect changes in patient condition
Administer medications and therapies including IV therapies and blood products
Collaborate with physicians and teams to develop and implement patient care plans
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
Maintain accurate EMR documentation ensuring compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards
Respond to emergencies and participate in rapid interventions
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Minimum of 1–2 years nursing experience, preferably in step-down or critical care units
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in step-down or progressive care units
Strong background in cardiac and respiratory care
Certification in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
