Job Summary
The Cardiac Catheterization Technologist (Cath Lab Technologist) is responsible for providing technical, imaging, and procedural support during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. This role assists physicians with cardiac and vascular procedures, operates specialized imaging equipment, maintains sterile technique, and ensures patient safety throughout all phases of care.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity cardiovascular environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care & Procedure Preparation
  • Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures by verifying patient information, reviewing medical records, and ensuring procedure readiness.
  • Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and monitoring before, during, and after procedures.
  • Provide patient education and support regarding procedural expectations.
  • Monitor patient status and promptly communicate any changes to the healthcare team.
  • Cardiac Catheterization & Interventional Procedure Support
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain procedure rooms, sterile fields, and required equipment.
  • Set up and manage catheters, guidewires, balloons, stents, and other interventional devices.
  • Anticipate physician needs during procedures and provide technical assistance as required.
  • Support emergency cardiovascular interventions and critical patient situations.
  • Imaging & Equipment Operation
  • Operate fluoroscopy, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and other cardiovascular imaging equipment.
  • Acquire and process high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Monitor and document hemodynamic data during procedures.
  • Conduct equipment functionality checks and report malfunctions promptly.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of Cath Lab equipment.
  • Radiation Safety & Infection Control
  • Follow radiation safety regulations and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
  • Utilize appropriate protective equipment and monitor radiation exposure.
  • Maintain sterile techniques and infection prevention practices throughout procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Documentation & Quality Assurance
  • Accurately document procedural data, patient information, and equipment usage.
  • Maintain procedure records and assist with quality assurance initiatives.
  • Support inventory management and ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Participate in departmental process improvement and patient safety programs.
  • Collaboration & Team Support
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, nurses, radiologic technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and emergency response coverage as required.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new staff members when appropriate.
  • Support departmental goals and operational efficiency initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  1. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or related allied health program.
  2. Current ARRT certification, RCIS certification, or equivalent cardiovascular credential as required by the facility.
  3. Current state licensure if required by state regulations.
  4. Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and cardiovascular procedures.
  5. Experience operating fluoroscopy and cardiovascular imaging equipment.
  6. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in:
  • Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab)
  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Cardiovascular Imaging
  • Experience assisting with:
  • Coronary Angiography
  • Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
  • Peripheral Vascular Procedures
  • Structural Heart Procedures
  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), PACS, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.

Certifications (If Any)
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) – Preferred/Required per facility
  • ARRT Certification – Preferred/Required per facility
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification – Required or Preferred
  • State Licensure (if applicable)
