CT Technologist

Job Summary
The CT Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality computed tomography (CT) imaging procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role ensures patient safety, proper image acquisition, equipment operation, and compliance with radiation safety standards. The CT Technologist works closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate diagnostic imaging services while providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Preparation
  • Verify patient identity and review physician orders prior to imaging procedures.
  • Explain CT procedures to patients and address any questions or concerns.
  • Prepare and position patients appropriately to obtain optimal imaging results.
  • Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout the examination process.
  • Assess patients for contraindications to contrast administration when applicable.
  • CT Imaging Procedures
  • Perform diagnostic CT examinations according to established protocols and physician orders.
  • Operate CT scanning equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Administer contrast media as required and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
  • Ensure images meet quality standards prior to submission for interpretation.
  • Adhere to radiation safety practices and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
  • Equipment & Quality Assurance
  • Conduct routine quality control checks on CT equipment.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of imaging equipment and exam rooms.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental quality assurance standards.
  • Documentation & Compliance
  • Accurately document procedures, patient information, and imaging records in the appropriate systems.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Follow all department, facility, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control guidelines.
  • Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Assist with emergency, trauma, and urgent imaging procedures as needed.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, and continuing education programs.
  • Support workflow efficiency and contribute to a positive patient experience.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiography.
  • Current state Radiologic Technologist license, if required by state regulations.
  • Knowledge of CT imaging procedures, anatomy, physiology, and radiation safety practices.
  • Strong communication and patient care skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with imaging systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous CT Technologist experience in a hospital, imaging center, or acute care setting.
  • ARRT Certification in Computed Tomography (CT).
  • Experience with trauma, emergency department, or critical care imaging.
  • Familiarity with PACS, RIS, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Sciences or related healthcare field.

Certifications (If Any)
  • ARRT Certification in Radiography (Required)
  • ARRT Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) Preferred
  • State Radiologic Technologist License (if applicable)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required or Preferred based on facility requirements)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification (Preferred)
