The Registered Nurse – Endoscopy provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This role involves preparing patients, assisting physicians during procedures, monitoring patient status, and ensuring safe recovery. The nurse maintains compliance with hospital standards, infection control practices, and delivers compassionate care throughout the peri-procedural process.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures
Prepare patients through pre-procedure assessments, education, and consent verification
Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures
Monitor patient status including vital signs, sedation levels, and recovery progress
Administer medications and sedation as directed per physician orders and protocols
Educate patients and families on post-procedure care, discharge instructions, and follow-up requirements
Maintain accurate EMR documentation ensuring compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards
Adhere to infection control and sterile technique throughout procedures
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Minimum of 1–2 years nursing experience, preferably in endoscopy, perioperative, or critical care settings
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in endoscopy or GI procedures
Strong background in sedation and recovery care
Certification in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Certifications
BLS required
ACLS required
NIHSS preferred
