Laboratory Technician

Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine analytical and laboratory testing to support food safety, quality assurance, and operational objectives. This role conducts quantitative and qualitative testing of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods while ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. The Laboratory Technician maintains laboratory equipment, documents test results, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to promote and strengthen food safety and quality culture throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine analytical and laboratory testing to support food safety, quality assurance, and operational initiatives.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative inspections and testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
  • Accurately document, record, and communicate laboratory test results to internal stakeholders.
  • Enter and maintain testing results within laboratory databases and quality management systems.
  • Monitor laboratory instrumentation performance and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Perform calibration checks, preventive maintenance activities, and basic troubleshooting or repairs on laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain customer specification documentation and ensure records remain current and accurate.
  • Support food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs across the facility.
  • Monitor adherence to food safety regulations, quality standards, and laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with more complex testing, trials, and experimental activities under intermediate supervision.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, maintain, and improve food safety and quality culture.
  • Ensure laboratory operations comply with established safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Escalate complex technical, administrative, or customer support issues to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline preferred.
  • Ability to perform routine laboratory testing and analysis in a food, agricultural, manufacturing, or quality environment.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory equipment, testing methods, and quality control processes.
  • Ability to accurately document and maintain laboratory records and reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and standard operating procedures.
  • Proficiency in data entry and computer applications, including database management systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while following established procedures and guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a food, feed, agricultural, manufacturing, or quality control laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with food safety programs, quality systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience performing equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) or similar data management tools.
  • Experience supporting quality assurance, food safety, or regulatory programs.
  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety principles.

Certifications
  • No specific certifications required.
  • Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, SQF, or other quality-related certifications are considered a plus.

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Agricultural Science, or a related field preferred.

Experience
  • Previous laboratory, quality assurance, food safety, manufacturing, or testing experience preferred.
  • Experience working with laboratory instrumentation, data analysis, and quality control procedures is highly desirable.
  • Experience in food, feed, agricultural, or manufacturing environments is a plus.
