Job Summary
The Interim Sterile Operations Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for the Central Processing Department (CPD), ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of sterilization and high-level disinfection services across the organization. This role oversees daily department operations, staff leadership, regulatory compliance, quality improvement initiatives, and customer service excellence while supporting clinical and technical operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day Central Processing operations, ensuring continuous support for surgical and patient care areas.
  • Oversee instrument reprocessing, sterilization workflows, inventory management, and throughput optimization.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and evaluate supervisors and staff, including scheduling, payroll oversight, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, AAMI, AORN, CDC, OSHA, infection prevention, and hospital standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in decontamination, sterilization, and high-level disinfection practices.
  • Partner with clinical leaders to support surgical case readiness and resolve operational issues impacting patient care.
  • Monitor quality, safety, and regulatory performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Foster strong collaboration and customer service across departments and clinical teams.
  • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all safety, training, and organizational requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, or active enrollment in a bachelor's degree program with completion expected within 24 months of hire.
  • CRCST or CSPDT certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of Sterile Processing experience, or a combination of Sterile Processing and Operating Room operations experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of sterilization processes, infection prevention, regulatory standards, workflow management, and quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and team development skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and healthcare operational systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader) certification.
  • Experience leading large sterile processing or perioperative services teams.
  • Experience with accreditation readiness, regulatory surveys, and performance improvement initiatives.

Certifications
  • CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) certification required.
  • CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader) certification preferred.
