Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse – Operating Room (RN-OR) to provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care in a surgical environment. The RN-OR is responsible for supporting surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile techniques, and collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality patient care throughout the surgical process.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide direct patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  2. Prepare operating rooms, surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
  3. Ensure compliance with sterile techniques, infection prevention standards, and patient safety protocols.
  4. Assess patients preoperatively and review medical histories, surgical plans, and consent documentation.
  5. Assist surgeons and procedural teams during surgical interventions as a circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse, as applicable.
  6. Monitor patient status throughout surgical procedures and promptly respond to changes in condition.
  7. Coordinate with anesthesiology, surgical teams, and recovery room staff to ensure continuity of care.
  8. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and surgical activities.
  9. Verify surgical site, procedure, and patient identification according to established safety standards.
  10. Manage surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment to support efficient procedural workflows.
  11. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  12. Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and postoperative care instructions.

Required Qualifications
  1. Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  2. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  3. Experience in an Operating Room, Perioperative Services, Surgical Services, or related clinical setting.
  4. Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and patient safety protocols.
  5. Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  7. Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  8. Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and clinical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  2. Prior experience in multi-specialty surgical environments.
  3. Experience working with advanced surgical technologies and equipment.
  4. Familiarity with robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
  5. Knowledge of perioperative best practices and quality improvement initiatives.

Certifications
  1. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  2. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required based on facility requirements.
  3. Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred.
  4. Additional perioperative or specialty nursing certifications are a plus.
