Job Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards.
This role involves drawing quality blood samples while fostering trust and confidence among patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data.
- Update patient information and ensure specimen decontamination procedures are followed.
- Greet patients courteously and provide a calm environment to reduce anxiety during the collection process.
- Collect specimens, including blood, urine, or fecal samples, following established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate proficiency in techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Verify requisitions or labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at the appropriate temperature to maintain integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual training sessions.
- Respond to telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in phlebotomy.
- Proficiency in specimen collection and processing methods.
- Familiarity with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
