Job Summary
The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting, processing, and storing specimens in accordance with established procedures.
This role requires expertise in performing blood draws, venipunctures, specimen handling, and maintaining accurate patient and lab records.
The Phlebotomist ensures a positive patient experience while adhering to laboratory standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, venipunctures, and specimen collection using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Collect, label, centrifuge, split, and store specimens according to physician orders and test requirements.
- Ensure proper explanation of venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients in a courteous manner.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify test requisitions against scripts for accuracy.
- Maintain specimen integrity by following specific protocols for storage and transport.
- Record maintenance data, handle decontamination, and update patient information as required.
- Package specimens for transport and ensure compliance with temperature and protocol requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist with expertise in blood draws and venipunctures.
- Proficient in using straight and butterfly needles and handling color-coded specimen tubes.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite for record-keeping and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.
