Position Overview:
The Sterilization Technician is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper organization of dental instruments for various groups within Client. This role involves operating sterilization equipment, handling instruments, and managing the quality control aspects of sterilization procedures. The technician will work with minimal supervision and may also assist with organizing sterilization supplies, labeling instruments, and providing guidance to students regarding sterilization equipment and supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
Sterilization and Cleaning:
Wash, bag, and sterilize dental instruments using appropriate sterilization equipment and methods.
Ensure all sterilization procedures comply with relevant federal and state regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, DPH, AAMI, ANSI).
Maintain cleanliness and organization of sterilization equipment, supplies, and work areas.
Instrument Handling and Organization:
Pick up dirty dental instruments and organize them for sterilization.
Drop off clean, sterilized instruments to designated groups and ensure proper organization.
Label cassettes and instruments as needed for identification and organization.
Ensure sterilization supplies and cassettes are properly stocked and organized.
Quality Control:
Monitor and document quality control aspects of the sterilization process, ensuring compliance with standards.
Inspect sterilization equipment and supplies for functionality and compliance with safety protocols.
Address any issues related to sterilization quality and escalate concerns as needed.
Knowledge and Guidance:
Master knowledge of sterilization supplies, cassettes, and equipment in stock.
Provide guidance to students and staff regarding sterilization needs and equipment usage.\
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to safety protocols and ensure all sterilization procedures meet regulatory requirements.
Maintain certification and participate in ongoing training as needed to stay current with sterilization best practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification as a Sterilization Technician or dental assistant preferred.
Experience: 1-3 years of experience in sterilization, laboratory work, or as a trained dental assistant.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with sterilization supplies, equipment, and techniques.
Understanding of federal and state regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, DPH, AAMI, ANSI).
Ability to operate sterilization equipment independently.
