Registered Nurse - First Assist

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our surgical team. This role involves assisting the surgeon in the lead role during operative procedures under the direction of the Nurse Manager. The RNFA will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of patient care throughout the entire surgical process. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, with on-call duties and weekend shifts required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Surgical Assistance:
  • Assist the surgeon in a lead role during operative procedures, ensuring patient safety and effective surgical outcomes until the conclusion of the procedure.
  • On-Call Shifts:
  • Be available for on-call shifts two days a week from 5 PM (or end of shift) to 7 PM, and one weekend every 3 weekends, including a 24-hour call on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the surgical team to ensure that the surgical procedure runs smoothly and that any complications are swiftly addressed.
  • Perioperative Nursing:
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both scrubbing and circulating during surgeries, ensuring a high level of support to surgeons and the operating room team.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure:
  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing.
  • Current RN licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Certifications:
  • ACLS and CNOR certifications required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or the American Red Cross required.
  • Completion of an RN First Assisting course that conforms to the Core Curriculum set forth by AORN.

Experience:
  • Five (5) years of diversified perioperative nursing experience, with proficiency in both scrubbing and circulating roles required.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong ability to assist in complex surgical procedures and respond to dynamic situations in the operating room.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with the surgical team.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while maintaining patient safety and surgical efficiency.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with a willingness to take on on-call shifts and weekend duties as needed.
