The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering safe and accurate radiation treatments to cancer patients as part of a multidisciplinary oncology team. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, empathy, and communication skills to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care throughout their treatment process.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized radiation therapy treatments to patients, in consultation with the oncology team.
Explain the treatment process to patients, addressing their questions and concerns to ensure comfort and understanding.
Administer radiation therapies according to detailed patient treatment plans.
Utilize medical imaging equipment to verify and ensure precise delivery of treatments.
Assess patients' reactions to radiation treatments, advising them on side effects and methods of alleviating discomfort.
Monitor patient progress and recommend adjustments to treatment plans when necessary.
Offer ongoing support to patients and their families, addressing any emotional or physical challenges they may face.
Perform regular quality assurance checks on simulation and treatment machines to ensure functionality and safety.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy or a related field.
Proven experience working as a Radiation Therapist in a clinical or hospital setting.
Proficiency in using medical imaging and radiation therapy equipment.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction.
Exceptional hand-eye coordination for precise and accurate treatment delivery.
Ability to provide empathetic care while maintaining professionalism.
Meticulous attention to detail in treatment planning and execution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy (or equivalent certification).
Previous experience in a similar oncology-focused role.
Familiarity with the latest radiation therapy techniques and technologies.
