Sterile Processing Technician

Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that medical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and safe for use in patient care. This position involves operating various sterilization equipment, performing biological testing to verify sterilization efficacy, and adhering to hospital protocols and industry standards, such as those set by AAMI and the CDC. The technician ensures that instruments are prepared and processed according to strict guidelines to maintain a sterile environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sterilization Equipment Operation: Operate sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, gas plasma sterilizers, and chemical sterilizers, to ensure that instruments are properly sterilized.
  • Sterilization Verification: Perform biological testing to verify the efficacy of sterilization processes and ensure all instruments are free of contaminants.
  • Compliance with Protocols: Ensure that all sterilization procedures meet hospital protocols and industry standards (e.g., AAMI, CDC guidelines).
  • Instrument Preparation: Prepare medical instruments for sterilization, ensuring they are clean and ready for processing.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, testing results, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Troubleshooting: Monitor sterilization equipment for malfunctions and troubleshoot issues when they arise, escalating as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in sterilization techniques and operation of sterilization equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of hospital protocols and industry standards (e.g., AAMI, CDC).
  • Attention to detail in monitoring sterilization processes and performing biological testing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications (if any):
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (e.g., CRCST or CSPDT).
  • Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Certifications (if any):
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) (preferred).
