Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit

Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is responsible for providing high-quality patient care to individuals with complex medical needs. This role requires critical thinking and the ability to respond quickly to patient conditions. The RN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Study patients' charts, medication regimens, and test results upon admission to the Progressive Care Unit.
  • Track routine vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry measurements.
  • Interpret measurements from specialized medical equipment and respond accordingly.
  • Monitor and administer prescribed medications, performing titration of drug doses as necessary.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments in response to changes in patient measurements and implement designated interventions.
  • Report deteriorating conditions to healthcare specialists and follow intervention instructions promptly.
  • Update and maintain ward charts, patient files, and medical records to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Oversee the work of Progressive Care Unit nursing assistants and support staff to ensure high standards of care.
  • Explain treatments and procedures to patients and their families, providing clear answers to their questions.
Job Requirements:
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a progressive or critical care setting.
  • Requirements: COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
License/Certification: 
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state or compact state; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
