The Phlebotomist I is responsible for performing blood draws, specimen labeling, and preparation while ensuring patient comfort and maintaining specimen integrity.
This role requires attention to detail and adherence to established procedures to support accurate laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples following established protocols.
Record maintenance data, ensure decontamination procedures, and update patient information accurately.
Collect and store specimens as per guidelines, ensuring proper handling and integrity.
Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) in a courteous and clear manner.
Demonstrate proficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and follow test-specific orders.
Check requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
Follow outlined protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport and processing.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist.
Proficient in using straight and butterfly needles, and handling color-coded tubes.
Experience in blood draws and venipunctures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
