The Medical/Practice Assistant (MA/PA) is a crucial member of the healthcare team, accountable for providing patient care as assigned by a Licensed Independent Provider (LIP: MD, NP, PA), a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or a Registered Nurse (RN). The MA/PA participates in both direct and indirect patient care, health maintenance, patient education, collaborative planning, and rehabilitation. Additionally, the MA/PA will provide administrative support to ensure a seamless patient experience. They may also be present in secure medication storage areas and have incidental access to medications.

Clinical Duties:

Accept patient care assignments within the scope of training and current standards of practice.
Collaborate with the LIP, LPN, or RN to gather data for assessing, planning, and evaluating care.
Participate as a member of the healthcare team, contributing to a supportive and therapeutic environment aimed at achieving patient goals.
Accurately obtain vital signs, assess the patient's health status, administer care within scope of practice, and document in the electronic health record (EHR).
Perform routine tests such as electrocardiograms, vision/hearing screenings, and collect specimens for lab tests.
Participate in team-based care and patient education initiatives to support the health and wellness of patients.
Reinforce patient education and instructions provided by the LIP, LPN, or RN.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and compliance readiness activities.
Assist with prescription management, including pending new prescriptions, renewals, prior authorizations, and medication reconciliation.
Follow approved clinical guidelines to send orders for radiology, lab tests, and other care needs requiring LIP authorization.
Administrative Duties:
Answer and transfer telephone calls professionally and efficiently.
Schedule and register patients for appointments or procedures, confirm appointments, and prepare necessary documentation for patient visits.
Verify patient information upon arrival and ensure all necessary forms are completed.
Complete and submit billing/fiscal information after each visit, including collecting co-payments and daily reconciliation.
Assist with special projects as directed and support training and orientation for new staff.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
Utilize organizational resources effectively, including time management, supplies, equipment, and other assets.
Assist with front-end operations, including check-in/out, handling scripts, and managing prior authorizations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Previous experience in a medical assistant or similar healthcare role preferred.
Strong knowledge of front-end operations, including patient check-in/check-out, prescription management, and prior authorizations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and general office equipment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA) or similar credentials is preferred.
Experience with scheduling and billing systems is a plus.
