Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the NICU provides comprehensive nursing care to neonates and infants with a variety of health issues, ranging from simple to complex. The RN will work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver optimal care to vulnerable patients in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Key Responsibilities:
Assume responsibility for an assigned group of NICU patients, ensuring personalized and effective care.
Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting any changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assist physicians in the examination of patients and the performance of minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observing physiological manifestations, and intervening when necessary.
Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products, ensuring safe and effective delivery.
Provide competent patient care, ensuring all aspects of neonatal health are addressed and managed.
Interact with patients and their families, sharing care plans during the hospital stay and at discharge.
Inform patients and their families of hospital procedures, policies, and what to expect during treatment.
Make appropriate referrals regarding patient care needs to necessary personnel or specialists.
Delegate tasks to support staff, ensuring efficiency and care standards are met.
Required Qualifications:
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical nursing role, preferably in a neonatal or pediatric setting.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures specific to neonatal care.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques appropriately.
Strong ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues, patients, and families.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
Education:
Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Certifications & Licensure:
Required:
Current State RN license or current multistate compact RN license.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (American Heart Association).
