The Registered Nurse in the PACU is responsible for providing nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex, under general supervision. The nurse will be involved in post-operative care, monitoring patients' recovery after anesthesia, and ensuring their overall health and safety during the post-anesthesia period.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care Management:
Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients in the PACU.
Administer medications as prescribed, including intravenous infusions and blood products.
Monitor and assess patients' physiological data, observing any changes in condition and intervening when necessary.
Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, including any changes in physician orders.
Provide competent patient care and interact with patients and their families regarding the care plan during hospitalization and at discharge.
Collaboration and Communication:
Assist physicians in patient examinations and performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Inform patients and families of hospital procedures.
Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegate tasks to support staff as needed.
Respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
Additional Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory or medical staff.
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
At least 1 year of nursing experience, preferably in a similar clinical setting.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
Some computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from an accredited nursing program.
Certifications:

Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing from a Board-Approved Program.

Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
