Certified Histotechnician

Job Summary:
The Histotechnician is responsible for performing a variety of technical and related duties within the histology section of the laboratory. This role involves preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination, ensuring accuracy and quality in all laboratory procedures. The Histotechnician reports directly to the Section Supervisor, Histology, and operates in compliance with established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine and specialized histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Prepare and apply various special stains and immunohistochemical techniques.
  • Prepare reagents and maintain quality control of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision in all laboratory processes and documentation.
  • Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to support diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines related to laboratory operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent registration, or registry eligibility (relevant education transcripts required).
  • For candidates grandfathered by ASCP, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated competency in all special stain and immunohistochemical techniques, including reagent and stain preparation.
  • Ability to meet registration requirements within one year of employment (failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the position).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a histology laboratory setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in laboratory equipment and software systems.

Certifications:
  • HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent (required).
  • Additional certifications in specialized histological techniques (preferred).

Education: Bachelors Degree
