We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Phlebotomy Supervisor to lead our phlebotomy team at Faulkner Hospital Laboratory. This role involves overseeing daily phlebotomy operations, managing staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, and maintaining efficient workflows in the Phlebotomy, Accessioning, and Sendout areas. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Obtain blood specimens from patients as needed, serving as a backup when required.
Collaborate with medical technologists and client services to resolve specimen-related issues promptly and effectively.
Act as a liaison between Faulkner Hospital Laboratory and external clients to ensure excellent service delivery.
Manage a team of 18+ phlebotomy staff, providing guidance, support, and leadership to enhance team performance.
Conduct regular inventory checks and maintain adequate supplies to prevent service disruptions. Place supply orders through Workday as needed.
Orient, train, and mentor new employees and students in all phlebotomy-related activities to ensure high service standards.
Conduct annual competencies to assess and maintain staff proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and protocols.
Manage resources effectively across the Phlebotomy, Accessioning, and Sendout areas to optimize operational efficiency.
Demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
Participate in hiring processes, including interviewing candidates and assisting with recruitment decisions.
Support workflow and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and service quality within the lab.
Perform annual performance evaluations for team members, providing constructive feedback and development opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Phlebotomy, or a related field (preferred).
Certification in Phlebotomy (e.g., ASCP, NPA) or equivalent credentials.
Proven leadership experience in a phlebotomy or clinical laboratory setting.
Strong knowledge of phlebotomy procedures, specimen handling, and laboratory operations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
Proficiency with laboratory applications such as Epic, Sunquest, and scheduling tools like When2Work, UKG, and Workday.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in process improvement initiatives within a healthcare setting.
Knowledge of laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
Advanced skills in data analysis and reporting for quality improvement.
Certifications:
Required: Phlebotomy certification (ASCP, NPA, or equivalent).
Preferred: Additional certifications in leadership, laboratory management, or healthcare administration.
