Job Summary
The Nutrition Services Cook is responsible for planning and preparing well-balanced, nutritious meals that meet USDA guidelines while ensuring food quality, safety, and proper presentation. This role supports dietary needs in a healthcare or institutional setting and requires adherence to sanitary standards and collaboration with program leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Plan and/or follow weekly menus consisting of well-balanced, nutritious meals that meet USDA requirements
  2. Prepare appetizing, healthy meals and snacks that meet scheduled meal time
  3. Transport food between facilities ensuring quality and proper handling
  4. Inspect all food for quality and quantity before serving
  5. Prepare meals for special events and holidays
  6. Implement measures to minimize food waste
  7. Set up and clean up food production areas, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and sanitation as per local health guidelines
  8. Open and close kitchen, ensuring proper food storage and security
  9. Collaborate with the Program Director to order and maintain food and kitchen supplies
  10. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with food suppliers
  11. Participate in regular supervision meetings with the direct supervisor

Required Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Minimum of three years relevant work experience in food service or nutrition
  3. Documented training in nutrition and menu planning in an institutional setting
  4. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification required
  5. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA required
  6. Valid driver’s license preferred
  7. Experience or willingness to work sensitively with a substance abuse treatment population
  8. Interest in and ability to work in a multicultural setting

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Serve Safe certification, Allergy Awareness certification, or other health-related certifications preferred
  2. Experience transitioning to or using Epic Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system

Certifications
  1. CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
  2. BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA
  3. Serve Safe and Allergy Awareness (preferred or as required by regulatory agencies)
