The Registered Nurse – Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab RN) is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. This role involves pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure recovery, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes in a high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, and other interventional procedures.
Monitor patient vital signs and condition during procedures.
Administer medications and contrast agents as ordered by the physician.
Assist cardiologists during procedures by handling instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
Provide post-procedural care, including monitoring for complications and managing recovery.
Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery, and lifestyle modifications.
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including cardiologists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists.
Respond to emergencies and manage patients under sedation.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care or cardiac nursing.
Proficiency in EKG interpretation, IV therapy, and emergency response.
Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Epic clinical systems or electronic health records.
Familiarity with cardiac device implantation and electrophysiology procedures.
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
