The LVN/LPN – Medical Surgical Nurse provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician in a medical-surgical unit. This role involves assisting with patient assessments, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and supporting patients through preand post-operative care. The LVN/LPN plays a key role in ensuring patient comfort, safety, and recovery while maintaining accurate documentation and collaborating with the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and record patient vital signs and report abnormalities to supervising staff
Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, and daily living activities
Administer medications and injections as prescribed
Change wound dressings and assist with other basic medical procedures
Prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in post-operative care
Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation
Collaborate with RNs and physicians to implement patient care plans
Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols
Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program
Current and valid LVN or LPN license
Current CPR/BLS certification
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Basic knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practices
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a medical-surgical or acute care setting
Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS)
IV Therapy Certification (if required by state regulations)
