The Mental Health Technician provides direct support to patients receiving behavioral health services in inpatient or outpatient settings. This role assists with daily living activities, monitors patient behavior, and supports therapeutic interventions under the supervision of nurses and mental health professionals. The technician plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, structured, and compassionate environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities
Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility
Monitor and document patient behavior, mood, and interactions
Support therapeutic activities and group sessions as directed by clinical staff
Respond to patient needs and de-escalate behavioral situations using approved techniques
Record vital signs and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff
Ensure patient safety by conducting routine checks and adhering to facility protocols
Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and physicians to provide coordinated care
Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR)
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Prior experience in a healthcare or behavioral health setting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage challenging situations with patience and professionalism
Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and daily activities
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
Associate’s degree or coursework in psychology, social work, or related field
Experience working in inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health facilities
Familiarity with EMR systems
Certifications (if any)
Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent – preferred
