The Registered Nurse – PreOp provides comprehensive nursing care to patients preparing for surgery. This role includes patient assessment, education, and coordination to ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures. The nurse collaborates closely with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct preoperative assessments, including reviewing patient history, medications, and allergies.
Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery through education and support.
Obtain vital signs, perform necessary screenings, and document findings.
Ensure informed consent is obtained and understood by patients.
Coordinate with surgical, anesthesia, and recovery teams to communicate patient needs and status.
Assist with preparation of the surgical environment and patient positioning.
Monitor patients for any changes or complications prior to surgery.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the patient’s medical record.
Required Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Experience in perioperative or surgical nursing preferred.
Strong assessment and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and safety protocols.
Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) or related specialty.
Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Ability to provide patient education and emotional support.
Certifications
Valid RN licd RN license.
BLS and ACLS certification preferred.
Education: High School
Certification: Basic Life Support , Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
