The Certified Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care and treatment to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. This role is responsible for assessing patient needs, administering therapeutic procedures, monitoring patient progress, and collaborating with physicians and healthcare teams to ensure optimal respiratory outcomes. The CRT ensures compliance with hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Assess, evaluate, and treat patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions.
Administer respiratory therapy treatments including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, and mechanical ventilation.
Perform diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, and oximetry.
Monitor patient responses to therapy and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
Maintain accurate documentation in patient records and electronic medical systems.
Ensure proper operation, calibration, and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment.
Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality assurance standards.
Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
