Job Summary  
The Mental Health Counselor provides therapeutic support and counseling services to patients within a psychiatric health center. This role is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions to promote emotional well-being, recovery, and resilience. The counselor collaborates with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct patient assessments and develop individualized treatment plans.
  2. Provide counseling and psychotherapy to patients with psychiatric and emotional disorders.
  3. Facilitate individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
  4. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
  5. Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  6. Document patient interactions and maintain accurate clinical records.
  7. Educate patients and families on coping strategies, treatment options, and community resources.
  8. Adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  2. Licensed or license-eligible as a Mental Health Counselor (state requirements apply).
  3. Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques and psychiatric care practices.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings.
  2. Familiarity with crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
  3. Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Certifications
  1. State licensure as a Mental Health Counselor or equivalent.
  2. CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
