The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administering radiation treatments to patients as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compassionate care. This role involves operating specialized equipment, maintaining treatment records, and supporting patients throughout their therapy journey.
Key Responsibilities
Administer radiation therapy treatments according to physician prescriptions and treatment plans
Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment with precision and safety
Verify patient identity and treatment parameters before each session
Monitor patients during treatment and respond to any physical or emotional needs
Maintain accurate treatment records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards
Collaborate with oncologists, physicists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care
Educate patients and families about treatment procedures, side effects, and aftercare
Adhere to safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure
Participate in quality assurance and equipment calibration activities
Support departmental initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy or related field
Completion of an accredited radiation therapy program
Strong technical skills with radiation therapy equipment and software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with precision and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a clinical radiation therapy setting
Familiarity with advanced treatment techniques such as IMRT, IGRT, or stereotactic radiosurgery
Certifications (if any)
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent (depending on region)
State licensure where applicable
