The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse provides specialized care for patients with life-threatening conditions or complex comorbidities requiring advanced organ support and invasive monitoring. This role demands critical thinking, strong clinical knowledge, and the ability to respond quickly in a high-acuity environment. The ICU RN cares for patients with diverse conditions, including overdose, trauma, post-surgical recovery, and chronic illness.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients
Monitor and interpret vital signs, invasive lines, and organ support systems
Administer medications and therapies, including advanced interventions
Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
Respond rapidly to emergencies and provide life-saving interventions
Educate patients and families on treatment plans and recovery processes
Utilize electronic charting systems (EPIC) for documentation and communication
Required Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
Current RN License (state-specific or compact license)
Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Prior experience in trauma or surgical ICU settings
Certifications
BLS (Basic Life Support, American Heart Association)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
