Medical Assistant I

Job Description:
Medical Assistants I provide patient care under the orders and guidance of clinicians in accordance with Bay Area Community Health (BACH) clinic protocols and policies. Medical Assistant I, under Clinic Operations Management supervision, will perform various assignments within their scope of practice to support comprehensive quality medical care. Medical Assistants will be providing support in various clinic departments within Client  that include, but not limited to, Primary Care, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Optometry, and Podiatry.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare, clean and stock exam rooms daily as per supply/instrument check list
  2. Review electronic patient chart information to prepare for patient visits
  3. Huddle daily with providers to plan for patient visits.
  4. Prepare patients for exams to include, but not limited to, point of care tests or procedure
  5. Document completed patient screening questionnaire in EHR
  6. Prepare instruments, equipment and trays for patient visits
  7. Pend in-house lab orders and vaccines
  8. Vaccine administrations
  9. Carry out patient rooming responsibilities
  10. Gap In Care completion
  11. Perform downtime procedure, as needed
  12. Proper specimen collection and procedure
  13. Continually monitor patient flow, including wait times in exam rooms, or remind providers when they are running behind.
  14. Addressing Electronic Health Records (EHR) pool messages within 24-48 hrs., as appropriate
  15. Understand qualifications for county insurance programs and Sliding Fee Program
  16. Familiarity and utilization of de-escalations techniques
  17. Enroll eligible patients into county insurance (e.g. EWC, CDP, FPACT)
  18. Knowledge of all BACH services
  19. Registration and check-in process and procedure
  20. Navigate health plan portals to verify insurance eligibility
  21. Provide patient education materials and instructions for referrals, imaging, and tests
  22. Make robust confirmation calls
  23. Scheduling appointments
  24. Medication reconciliations
  25. Comply with all regulatory and clinic procedures and measures, HIPAA, and exam room and lab cleanliness, infection control and waste disposal as per protocol.
  26. Stock clinic supplies, purge expired items, and other clinic duties as assigned
  27. Work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and overtime, as necessary and work at any other BACH clinic as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  1. Attend huddles, meetings, workshops, and trainings, as needed
  2. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:
Required Education, Experience, Training:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Certification of completion in Medical Assistant
  3. BLS CertificationPreferred Education, Experience, Training:
  4. 3-6 months’ healthcare work experience.
  5. EHR familiarities
  6. Familiar with Microsoft Office Suites
  7. Bilingual preferred

Physical Demands:
This position requires:
Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical, clinical and administrative office environment, with some bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Manual dexterity for tasks involving standard office equipment and computer keyboard, including repetitive movements, such as typing.
Traveling to work sites, including some exposure to outside elements.Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations, requiring adherence to extensive safety precautions and possibly the use of protective equipment.
