Medical Assistant I

Overall Summary:

  • Medical Assistants I provide patient care under the orders and guidance of clinicians in accordance with Client clinic protocols and policies.
  • Medical Assistant I, under Clinic Operations Management supervision, will perform various assignments within their scope of practice to support comprehensive quality medical care.
  • Medical Assistants will be providing support in various clinic departments within Client that include, but not limited to, Primary Care, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Optometry, and Podiatry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, clean and stock exam rooms daily as per supply/instrument check list
  • Review electronic patient chart information to prepare for patient visits
  • Huddle daily with providers to plan for patient visits.
  • Prepare patients for exams to include, but not limited to, point of care tests or procedure
  • Document completed patient screening questionnaire in EHR
  • Prepare instruments, equipment and trays for patient visits
  • Pend in-house lab orders and vaccines
  • Vaccine administrations
  • Carry out patient rooming responsibilities
  • Gap In Care completion
  • Perform downtime procedure, as needed
  • Proper specimen collection and procedure
  • Continually monitor patient flow, including wait times in exam rooms, or remind providers when they are running behind.
  • Addressing Electronic Health Records (EHR) pool messages within 24-48 hrs., as appropriate
  • Understand qualifications for county insurance programs and Sliding Fee Program
  • Familiarity and utilization of de-escalations techniques
  • Enroll eligible patients into county insurance (e.g. EWC, CDP, FPACT)
  • Knowledge of all Client services
  • Registration and check-in process and procedure
  • Navigate health plan portals to verify insurance eligibility
  • Provide patient education materials and instructions for referrals, imaging, and tests
  • Consistently demonstrate GUEST principles toward patients, colleagues, supervisors and external customers and suppliers.
  • Make robust confirmation calls
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Medication reconciliations
  • Comply with all regulatory and clinic procedures and measures, HIPAA, and exam room and lab cleanliness, infection control and waste disposal as per protocol.
  • Stock clinic supplies, purge expired items, and other clinic duties as assigned
  • Work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and overtime, as necessary and work at any other BACH clinic as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Attend huddles, meetings, workshops, and trainings, as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Required Education, Experience, Training:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification of completion in Medical Assistant 
  • BLS Certification

Preferred Education, Experience, Training:

  • 3-6 months’ healthcare work experience.
  • EHR familiarities
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suites
  • Bilingual Preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical, clinical and administrative office environment, with some bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for tasks involving standard office equipment and computer keyboard, including repetitive movements, such as typing.
  • Traveling to work sites, including some exposure to outside elements.
  • Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations, requiring adherence to extensive safety precautions and possibly the use of protective equipment.
