The Registered Nurse – NICU provides specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. This role involves continuous assessment, administration of medications and therapies, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and family education to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes for neonates in intensive care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to premature and critically ill newborns in the NICU
Monitor vital signs, respiratory status, and cardiac function using advanced monitoring equipment
Administer medications and therapies including IV fluids, blood products, and specialized neonatal treatments
Collaborate with physicians, neonatologists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans
Educate and support families regarding newborn conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
Respond to emergencies including neonatal resuscitation and rapid changes in patient condition
Maintain accurate EMR documentation ensuring compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse license
Current BLS certification
Current NRP certification (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Minimum of 1–2 years NICU or pediatric nursing experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Level III or IV NICU settings
Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC)
Strong background in family-centered care and neonatal developmental support
