The School Counselor provides academic, pragmatic, and social-emotional support to students with complex learning profiles throughout the school day. This role involves instructional support inside and outside the classroom, designing and implementing activities, and collaborating with academic and clinical team members in a child-centered, therapeutic school setting.
Key Responsibilities
Support teachers in curriculum implementation
Assist teachers, clinicians, and administration in maintaining a safe and nurturing environment
Provide academic support, accommodations, and modifications as needed
Facilitate student transitions between classes and throughout the building
Supervise and implement coverage activities during staff absences
Supervise students in all school locations, including arrival and dismissal
Provide ongoing social-emotional support to students in classroom and milieu settings
Design and implement activities/classes under supervision
Complete student-related documentation as required
Prepare and maintain classrooms and milieu for daily use
Proctor testing sessions, ensuring IEP-mandated accommodations are provided
Model appropriate social cues and body language, offering social pragmatic support
Perform other duties as assigned while complying with all school policies and standards
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Education preferred (experience may be accepted in lieu of education requirements)
Experience working with children and/or adolescents (0–1 year preferred)

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in therapeutic or special education settings

None required; relevant certifications in counseling or education are a plus
