The Medical Secretary provides administrative and patient support services in a healthcare setting. This role involves managing complex scheduling tasks, onboarding and mentoring support staff, ensuring accurate data collection, and delivering exceptional customer service. The Medical Secretary plays a key role in patient satisfaction, workflow efficiency, and compliance with healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a mentor and role model for support staff; assist with onboarding and training
Manage scheduling tasks including appointment booking, template adjustments, and patient outreach
Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and referral tracking
Deliver customer service by resolving escalated issues and supporting patient satisfaction
Oversee waiting room operations, verify patient information, and assist with check-in/check-out processes
Process documentation including forms, prior authorizations, and prescription renewals
Collaborate with supervisors on coverage and workflow; lead huddles as needed
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and special projects
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (or higher)
Epic experience is required
1+ years of customer service or healthcare experience in a medical setting
Intermediate computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree or higher in a related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling software
Strong problem-solving and complex patient management skills
