Job Summary
The Registered Respiratory Therapist – Director is responsible for providing leadership, operational oversight, and clinical direction for respiratory therapy services. This role oversees respiratory care programs, ensures compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, manages staff and departmental operations, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care. The Director is responsible for driving clinical excellence, operational efficiency, staff development, and patient outcomes across respiratory therapy services.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and oversight for respiratory therapy operations and clinical services.
• Direct and manage respiratory care programs, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
• Oversee staffing, scheduling, performance management, and professional development of respiratory therapy personnel.
• Monitor and improve quality, safety, and patient care outcomes.
• Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and strategic initiatives.
• Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and operational performance.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient care initiatives.
• Ensure appropriate respiratory therapy coverage and service delivery across assigned areas.
• Evaluate and implement clinical best practices, protocols, and evidence-based care standards.
• Monitor departmental performance metrics and implement process improvement initiatives.
• Support staff education, competency assessments, and ongoing training programs.
• Participate in organizational leadership meetings and strategic planning activities.
• Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with clinical and operational requirements.
• Address operational, clinical, and staffing issues in a timely manner.
• Promote a culture of patient safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Current and unrestricted Respiratory Therapist license, as required by state regulations.
• Experience in respiratory therapy clinical practice.
• Experience in a leadership, supervisory, management, or director-level role within respiratory care services.
• Strong knowledge of respiratory care practices, procedures, and clinical standards.
• Knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and compliance requirements related to respiratory therapy services.
• Experience managing clinical operations, staffing, and departmental performance.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and executive leadership.
• Experience with quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy, Healthcare Administration, Clinical Management, or a related field.
• Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience leading respiratory therapy services in an acute care, hospital, or healthcare system environment.
• Additional leadership or healthcare management certifications.
• Experience with budgeting, financial management, and strategic planning.
