JOB SUMMARY
Performs diagnostic echocardiograms on adult and pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities
• Performs technically proficient 2D, M-mode and Doppler cardiac exams.
• Coordinates activities with interrelated hospital departments, including scheduling exams, transporting patients, answering the phone and assuring billing information is accurately entered for payment.
• Assists cardiologist while dictating exams by preparing and measuring M-modes and by exchanging any other pertinent information contributing to the diagnosis.
• Acts as a liaison to deliver, pick up, and distribute dictations in a timely manner.
• Responds to patients’ needs during exams and reports changes in patient condition to the physician or nurse in charge.
• Orders Echo supplies and maintains the cleanliness and stock of examination rooms.
• Logs patients and exams and files patient records in the department.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities at the departmental, interdepartmental, and hospital-wide levels.
• Maintains quality control of equipment operation and the quality of examinations performed, coordinating repair services as needed.
• Stays current on events and advancements in the field of Echocardiography and seeks advice and mentorship from cardiologists regarding new skills and knowledge.
• Assists with other cardiac procedures as needed.
Schedule / Shift
DAYS 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Work Type: Full Time
4 Days - 10 Hours
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two year allied health education program that is patient care related (e.g., diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and/or registered nurse) is preferred.
Certifications
• A.R.D.M.S./CCI registered or registry eligible or comparable national accreditation required.
• State of New Mexico Echo Sonographer License.
• BLS certification issued through American Heart Association.
Experience
• Two years of actively performing echocardiograms is preferred.
Skills
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others from a variety of disciplines.
• Ability to work at a rapid pace under stressful conditions.
• Manual dexterity to perform echocardiograms.
