JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Polysomnograph Sleep Tech (Polysomnographer) performs a variety of sleep studies and associated testing procedures in a clinical sleep disorders setting. This role is responsible for administering diagnostic tests to patients with sleep disorders, assessing sleep patterns, and collecting data to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment.

Key Responsibilities
• Administer polysomnography (PSG) studies, including routine overnight sleep studies, multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), and maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWT).
• Apply electrodes and sensors to patients according to established protocols (e.g., scoring rules).
• Monitor patient vital signs, physiological signals, and overall well-being during sleep studies.
• Operate and maintain polysomnographic equipment, ensuring proper functionality and calibration.
• Document patient data, observations, and any adverse events accurately and thoroughly in the patient's medical record.
• Score sleep study data according to American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) scoring guidelines.
• Educate patients and their families about sleep study procedures and home care instructions.
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and respond effectively to patient needs or emergencies.

Schedule / Shift
• Full-time position.
• Requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by patient scheduling needs.

Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of an accredited Polysomnography program or equivalent on-the-job training.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience
• Previous experience in polysomnography or a related sleep disorder diagnostic field is required.

Skills
• Proficient in the set-up and monitoring of polysomnography equipment.
• Knowledge of sleep staging and scoring criteria according to AASM guidelines.
• Strong understanding of sleep disorders and their associated pathophysiology.
• Excellent patient assessment and monitoring skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interaction.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with equipment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Certifications
• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPGT) credential from the BRPT or equivalent.
