The Surgical Scrub Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field during surgical procedures. This role assists surgeons and nurses by ensuring surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly sterilized, organized, and available. The technician plays a critical role in maintaining patient safety and supporting efficient operating room workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment
Maintain sterile field throughout surgical procedures to prevent infection
Assist surgeons and nurses by passing instruments and supplies during operations
Ensure proper sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment
Monitor inventory of surgical supplies and restock as needed
Handle specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper labeling and transport
Support surgical team in maintaining patient safety and procedural efficiency
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced operating room environments
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in hospital or surgical settings
Familiarity with electronic medical records systems
Certifications (if applicable)
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
