JOB SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse provides direct patient care to critically ill patients requiring monitoring devices and complex interventions. This role involves bedside monitoring, medication administration, and remote monitoring from a central location, ensuring patient stability and facilitating transitions of care.

Key Responsibilities
• Monitor patients requiring advanced monitoring devices, including heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.
• Administer medications and provide other direct patient support.
• Perform remote monitoring from a central nursing station as needed.
• Demonstrate competency in basic and advanced life support.
• Perform and interpret dysrhythmia monitoring and implement appropriate treatment.
• Calculate medication dosages and monitor patients for effects, including continuous administration of non-titrated vasoactive agents, anti-arrhythmic agents, platelet inhibitors, and insulin.
• Monitor patients using standardized procedures for pre-, intra-, and post-procedures such as TEE, cardiac catheterization with PCI, cardioversion, bronchoscopy, EGD, PEG placement, and chest tube insertion.
• Recognize and respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies, initiating standardized interventions to stabilize patients.
• Set up, troubleshoot, and monitor hemodynamic monitoring equipment, recognizing and responding to signs of patient instability.
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and communicate findings.
• Assess ventilated patients to ensure prescribed treatment delivery and proper patient response.
• Assess and manage patients requiring non-invasive oxygen delivery systems, including oral airways, BiPAP, and nasal CPAP.
• Assess and understand long-term mechanical ventilation and weaning processes.
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients requiring renal therapeutic interventions such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation, stents, and urostomies.
• Recognize indications for and complications of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
• Recognize and evaluate family needs to facilitate transition from hospital to home.
• Exhibit advocacy, clinical judgment, caring practices, systems thinking, response to diversity, collaboration, and clinical inquiry.
• Educate patients and their families regarding their care.

Required Qualifications
• Valid CA LPN license
• IV certification
• BLS certification (American Heart Association)

Experience
• Previous orientation at a Kindred facility is required.
• Prior experience in a Kindred Hospital facility, whether permanent or contract, is required.
